Airline FFP Fraud
Jan 22, 2019
Fraud is a significant issue in the airline industry travellers are more connected and active online than ever before, encouraged by the industry to do more, from purchase to check in and more all from a mobile device that is inherently open to attack from open WiFi hotspots across airports, airline lounges and restaurants.
Recently, we have become aware of major breeches of some of the leading airlines such as British Airways and Air Canada. The data that was stolen could allow fraudsters access to consumer profiles that extend way beyond simple loyalty data.
In a world where customer behaviors are to some extent dictated by the technology that airlines impose on their customers, the fraudsters are partly enabled because of this technological reliance. Fighting fraud requires the deployment of new technologies and tools such as AI powered by experienced human intelligence providing the knowledge and best practices learned over many years.
The threat of an attack is far costlier than the actual value of tangible damages, reputation is at stake and in this world of privacy and security concerns, the Airline industry has a lot to lose.
